# Recourse and Law Enforcement

Thanks to the electronics integrated into the Diamond Standard commodities, users never need to trust that there’s an asset behind their Carats. However keys can be lost or stolen. The Bitcarbon Foundation cannot recover keys or reverse transactions, but upon a valid court order or law enforcement request, the affected Carats addresses can be frozen.

And because Carats are a digital asset backed by immediately deliverable physical commodities, users and owners can enforce their rights under global property laws in the court local to the physical assets, which can always be recovered.
